British Open Tournament

15 RGA gymnasts competed at this year’s British Open Tournament over the week end of the 28th and 29th November but the star performer of the week end was RGA’s top tumbler Heather Cowell.

Heather has been a member of the British squad for many years and has represented GB on several occasions but after an injury early in 2009 she had not been able to compete for most of the year.

Kath Peberdy, Head of tumbling at RGA said “ After months of hard work and dedication it was great to see Heather back to her best, she did really well to win 2 silvers and a bronze. “

The Jack Petchey Foundation also awarded Heather a certificate in recognition of her hard work and inspiration to other gymnasts.

Kath added “The whole team did really well bringing home a total of 11 medals,  our highest count yet at one competition”  Other RGA tumbling team members were Joshua Bland (3 silver), Harry Leaddley (2 silver), Lizzie Harraghy (silver and bronze) ,Lucy Eliman ( bronze) ,Arthur Polley, Harry Kilby and Millie Gower.

In addition to the RGA tumblers, 7 RGA sports acrobatic gymnasts made their way to the tournament.

Mel Cook  , Head of Acro said  “They all did really well for a first time at this level, and I am sure they will all be much better equipped to cope with the nerves at the next big competition. We have high hopes for these new partnerships”
