Acrobatic Gymnastics Squad

Acrobatics is a visually exciting sport combining strength, power, flexibility & daring. Gymnasts work together in pairs, threes or fours. There are five disciplines: women’s pairs, men’s pairs, mixed pairs, women’s trios & men’s fours.

Gymnasts follow the National Develop Plan and work up to FIG (Federation International Gymnastics) levels. The levels are:

Prep A- combined routine - pairs only

Prep B- combined routine - pairs only

Grade 1- combined routine - pairs & groups

Grade 2- combined routine - pairs & groups

Grade 3- balance & dynamic routines - pairs & groups

Grade 4- balance & dynamic routines - pairs & groups

FIG 11-16- balance & dynamic routines - pairs & groups

FIG 12-19- balance, dynamic & combined routines - pairs & groups

FIG Out of Age- balance & dynamic routines - pairs & groups

FIG Seniors- balance, dynamic & combined routines - pairs & groups

Routines are marked out of 30 marks. There are a maximum 10 marks for technical execution, 10 marks for artistry & 10 marks for difficulty.

Balance routines contain elements that demonstrate strength & flexibility. Gymnasts have to hold the elements for a minimum of 3 seconds. Grade levels follow set moves, increasing their tariff by choosing the most difficult moves in their level. The higher levels contain elements that transition from one move to the next to increase the difficulty and therefore, the tariff.

Dynamic routines contain elements that demonstrate power and flight. Grade levels follow set moves, increasing their tariff by choosing the most difficult moves in their level.

Combined routines contain elements that show balance & dynamic attributes. Prep levels & grades follow set moves, increasing their tariff by choosing the most difficult moves in their level.

At FIG level, only the top 6-8 partnerships go through to a final to compete their combined routine. These finalists are chosen by taking the top combined scores of their previous balance & dynamic routines,  In the final, marks go back to zero and the combined routine decides the overall winner.
