London Regionals - Tumbling

Richmond Tumblers win highest ever medal tally at the London Region Tumbling Championships .

In total Richmond’s tumbling squad won 26 medals, 13 Golds, 10 Silver and 3 Bronze at the event held in Townmead Rd in Kew on Saturday the 28th February 2009. This was an outstanding performance from a squad that continues to go from strength to strength.

With 12 Gymnasts now qualified for the National Development Plan Finals on the 9th and 10th May2009.  

Head Coach Kath Peberdy said “ It was a fantastic day to see the squad win so many medals across the age ranges”

Siblings Win Medals on Same Weekend

On the week end of 8th and 9th February, 2 siblings from Richmond Gymnastics Association won medals in 2 different competitions.

Kate Polley (aged 12) won Gold and a special achievement award at the GMPD (Gymnastic and Movement for People with Disabilities) competition held at Dagenham.

Kayleigh Frampton, Head of Disabilities at RGA said “It was the first time RGA has entered a gymnast in a out of club competition and we were all so very proud of Katie, she has worked very hard and she is a pleasure to coach” Kayleigh added “We hope Katie can inspire more children with disabilities to enjoy gymnastics and enter more competitions.”

Over the same week-end Katie’s brother Arthur (aged 10) won a Silver Medal in an elite Invitational Tumbling competition in Ireland (see below).

Tumblers Return Home with Medals from International Competition in Eire

RGA had 5 tumblers competing in this competition bringing home 4 medals to add to the growing Tumbling medal tally of this highly successful squad.

Head of Tumbling Kath Peberdy added “This was a great competition for out elite gymnasts and to return home with 4 medals was fantastic.” She added” This continues the great start our tumblers had to the year when 8 RGA tumblers were invited to take part in the GB age group squad training in January.”

King Edmunds Invitational Competition

Gymnasts from Richmond scooped medals at a competition which brought together some of the best clubs in British acrobatic gymnastics.

Richmond Gymnastics Association brought home six medals from the inter-club competition at King Edmund club, in Yate, Bristol.

RGA coach Alex Uttley said: “It was a tremendous experience, particularly for our younger gymnasts to compete against some of the most successful clubs in Britain.

“Particular praise should go to Jennifer Bailey, Fearn Griffin and Eleanor Munro, who beat off tough competition to earn a bronze medal in their women’s group.”

Prep B Men’s Pairs: Lewis Falconer and Bertie Cardillo-Zallo

SILVER
Grade 3 Men’s Pairs: Lewis Walker and Charlie Duncan
Grade 3 Women’s Groups: Jessica Lightowler, Josie Russell and Christie Wong

BRONZE
Grade 2 Women’s Groups: Jennifer Bailey, Fearn Griffin and Eleanor Munro
Grade 3 Women’s Pairs: Emma Stone and Kayleigh Bakker

The competition on Saturday February 7 involved clubs from across England and Scotland, including Wakefield, Spelthorne and South Tyneside.
