News - December 2008Click on the month to see previous news bulletins>>> Richmond’s Tumble Teams Excel at 2008 Tumble League RGA entered several teams into London’s Tumble League this autumn at both Novice level and National 3. Teams from girls and boys development did really well in their first out of club competition however they were up against stiff competition from the Junior tumble team who went to take team Gold and individual Gold and Silver. Well done to Abbie Andrews – Individual Novice Gold and Phoebe Mazzier Individual Novice Silver, members of the winning Novice team, also made up of Bronwyn Polley, Charlotte Wilson and Isabel Kennedy. At National level 3 RGA entered 2 teams this year made up from Intermediate and Senior tumblers, both teams did well winning Gold and Silver team medals and all 3 individual medals. Congratulations to Lucy Elliman, Overall Individual Gold Winner, Felicity Benham Individual Silver medallist and Millie Gower Individual Bronze Medallist, all members of the winning team along with Lizzie Harraghy and Abi De Sa. Silver team medal went to RGA others national level 3 team : Arthur Polley, Harry Leaddley, Harry Kilby, Hazel Scur and Hannah McKnight.
RGA Gymnasts best ever medal toll at British Open TournamentOn the last week end in November nine RGA tumblers and six RGA Acro Gymnasts travelled to Fenton Manor in Stoke on Trent to represent their club in the 2008 British Open Tournament Championship. This is one of the biggest events in the UK Gymnastics calendar with all the best gymnasts from across the UK and Ireland participating. It was the first tournament for the most of the intermediate tumblers aged 9-10, and they got RGA off to a great start, winning 2 golds, 2 silvers and 4 bronzes. The boys in particular dominated their age group winning over two thirds of the medals on offer in their age group and having four out of the eight finalists. Kath Peberdy, Head of tumbling at RGA and Rob Small RGA Coach said “We are very proud of all the tumbling squad, but the younger age group did particularly well, with most of them making the final. It was great to see four RGA tumblers winning medals, and in particular to have another Champion in this age group “ Acrobatic Gymnastics had two women’s trios competing in the Junior Womens Groups and both performed very well on the first day to qualify for the final in 3rd and 4th places. Shannon Brooks, Claire Cason and Flora Scott went onto to win a well deserved bronze in the final against some stiff competition. Salme Naylor, Director of Coaching and Head of Sports Acro at RGA added, “Both trios performed their final routines really well, I could not have asked them to perform any better, well done to all the girls for all their hard work” RGA Team: Tumbling : Harry Kilby, Harry Leadley, Joshua Bland, Arthur Polley, Emily Gower, Lucy Elliman, Lizzie Harraghy, Heather Cowell and Greg Boosey.
