Judging Courses
It is
a rule that each club must have at least one qualified judge able to officiate
at each competition. Failure to provide a judge could disqualify our club members from
competing.
Bearing in mind a full judging panel requires nine judges for Acrobatic Gymnastics with
often two panels required to complete a competition programme, it is very apparent why it
is important to run these courses.

The
last course was held in February 2007 with 20 people taking the exam from a
number of clubs in the London and the South East region.
The
course was run by Caroline and Tracey, over two weekends at the RGA.
The
programme covered judging theory and led to the qualification to become a club
Execution judge for tumbling and a club Technical and Artistry judge for Acrobatic Gymnastics.
Gymnasts from the RGA were on hand to provide practical judging experience during the course.
Further pre-exam experience was provided for the trainees when they were able to
judge at a practice competition at the RGA prior to the London Regionals. This
was the trainees first experience to practice their judging under real life conditions.
The
exam itself was held at the London Regionals in East London. The exam consisted of
judging 20 Prep A and B tumbles, 10 Acrobatic Gymnastics routines for technical marks and
10 for artistry. The scores given by the trainees needed to be within a
0.5 tolerance of the qualified judges to be acceptable. The practical was followed by a written exam.
The
course was a great success and the RGA now have four new club judges.
